Baileigh Industrial is the original creator of this type of pipe bender, which utilizes rotary compression bending in combination with rotary draw bending, producing the best quality bends on a non-mandrel tube bender machine tool at a reasonable investment.

  • Unique ratcheting mechanism allows you to bend easily by simply pulling a level. Each pull delivers 10 degrees of movement. For thinner walled tubing this machine turns into a hand tube bender by over riding the ratcheting mechanism.
  • Bends pull out in seconds (no disassembly required.)
  • Our manual pipe benders have a maximum capacity of 1 inch Sch. 40 pipe, 1 inch square and 1-3/4 inch tube
  • Rotary Draw Bender
  • Model 100 manual tubing bender is a great fabricating machine for general shop use or light production work.
  • If the fabricator has several B.I.L.tubing benders, tooling is interchangeable reducing tooling costs.
  • BI.L. tube benders have a heavy duty construction and design that offers more power with less effort.
  • Bend Material: Round or square tubing, pipe, flat stock, angle iron, or solid rod.
  • No pins to move or re-engaging to reach 206 degrees; this is accomplished by anti-reverse stop latch.
  • Highly visible degree dial improves accuracy.
  • B.I.L. tube benders have die sets that allow for extremely tight radii for non-mandrel bending.
  • Our tube benders have a non-proprietary die spindle head that allows the end user to fit machine with their own tooling if desired.
  • Built to the same high quality standards as all other B.I.L. tubing benders.

Tube Bender and Pipe Benders Basic Facts

When bending with a tube bender or pipe benders there are several parameters that must be kept in mind. The parameters should be given to your Baileigh Industrial representative to assist them in helping you select the appropriate die set for your application. The factors are as follows:

  1. Outside diameter of the tube or pipe
  2. The wall thickness of the tube or pipe
  3. The Centerline Radius (CLR) you wish to bend the tube of pipe on.

There are several dynamics involved when bending tube of pipe on a tube bender or on our pipe benders. First, the material on the inside of the bend must compress. Second, the material on the outside of the neutral axis must stretch. Little or no support is needed within the tube when the tube diameter is small and the wall is relatively thick. The tube or pipe becomes weaker when the tube diameter increases or wall thickness decreases. In addition, when the bend radius decreases, the forces acting on the tube are effectively increased.

When the ratio of the tube diameter to wall thickness is small enough, the tube can be bent on a relatively small radius CLR = 4 x tube O.D.) without excessive flattening or wrinkling of the bend. The outside of a bend tends to pull towards the center line flattening the tube. A conventionally grooved bend die supports the tube along the center line and the inherent strength of the round or square tube help prevent flattening.

Tube Bender and Pipe Benders Terminology

Centerline Radius (CLR) - Distance from the center of curve to the centerline axis of the pipe. If you would take your tube or pipe and bend it 180 degrees into a horseshoe you will have two straight legs. Measuring from the center of one leg to the center of the other leg will give you your diameter of your bend. Divide this in two and you will have your centerline radius. There are a variety of ways to measure your CLR including simple geometry.

Wall Factor - The outside diameter of your tube or pipe divided by the wall thickness of your tube or pipe. The larger this factor is the larger your CLR will need to be if you do not employ a mandrel.

Degree - An increment of angle to form a bend above the plane of 0 degrees, to which the bend is formed (i.e. 10, degrees, 45 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, etc.) See Diagram

Outside Diameter (O.D.) - The Outside diameter of a pipe, tube or beam in inches. This is the physical outside dimension of your tube or pipe. You must keep in mind that there is a difference between tubing and pipe.

Out of Plane - The deviation from a horizontal plane of rectangular object by a single bend, between its tangent points and the centerline of the bend.

Wall Thickness - this is simply how thick the wall of your tube or pipe is.

Mandrel - a tool that supports the interior structure of the tube while it is being bent. This tool is used on applications where the wall factor is quite large and the radius is around 1.5 times the outside diameter of the tube.

Wrinkles - Ribbed or wavy indentations in the inner bend angle of a bend of a pipe, tube or beam.

Ovality - The distortion of pipe or tube from it's a circular shape caused by bending. Springback - describes the tendency of metal which has been formed to return to its original shape.

Springback - causes the tube to unbend from two to ten percent depending on the radius of bend.

Tube Bender and Pipe Benders Warranty

Baileigh Industrial guarantees that the machine tool will be free from defects in workmanship and material for a period of one year from the date of purchase, provided such goods are installed, operated, maintained and used in accordance with Baileigh Industrials written machine tool instructions.

Our die sets are machined from high quality steel that resists wear and tolerates high levels of stress that occurs during the bending process. Cast dies can break easily and do not withstand the rigors of long term bending like our machined die sets can. Our dies sets are offered individually and in packages.. We stock a wide vareity of common die sets and custom die sets can be obtained in short order. Years of design and engineering assures that your application will work so if you have questions about the viablity of an application please do not hesisate to contact us and we will assist you in determining the best die set for your application.
