Tube Bender and Pipe Benders Overview

The Model 150 is an electric powered “Rotary Draw” tube bender machine tool. It is a power packed tube bender and falling in the category of pipe benders that can handle a wide variety of heavy duty tasks. It can also bend round pipe, box section tube, and rectangle tubing. All bending on our pipe benders is accomplished without a mandrel but the results are very close to mandrel quality. Baileigh Industrial is a full fledged machine tool specialist that always offers the highest quality machine tool. This includes our tube bender category and our pipe benders product offering . All our machine tool offerings will make your metal fabrication applications a breeze.

This machine tool can handle up to 2 inch schedule 40 pipe. When bending tubing the capacity of our tube bender is equally as broad.

The Model 150 tube bender is a hydraulic tube bender that runs on a 2 hp pump and all components and materials are of high quality and it is carefully built and designed to give many years of efficient service. Pipe Benders in the the Model #150 category offer you a machine tool built of solid steel ensuring maximum rigidity. Grade 8 bolts used throughout, provides a great amount of rigidity and stability. This unit is a very high quality machine tool.

The simplistic design or this requires a minimum amount of effort to operate making it one of the easiest pipe benders to operate on the market. The overall simplicity of this machine tool contributes to meeting schedules and producing greater profits. Also this machine tool will allow you to add a variety of capabilities to your manufacturing processes. Being that this machine tool is portable it is the perfect machine tool to take on sight for whatever job you may have at hand.

Tube Bending and Pipe Bending Overview

To bend material on our tube bender or pipe benders, a bending die and counter die are required. The material is hooked by the bending dies’ hook arm and is powerfully rotated in the clockwise direction on the tube bender. As the pipe benders die rotates, the counter die arm also rotates about the same axis, forcing the material to conform to the radius and shape of the bending die. The Model #150 tube bender is capable of producing 180 degree bends in one shot without stopping or ratcheting. (205 degree max.) A complete 180 degree bend can be accomplished in 12 seconds on our high speed model tube bender.

Pipe Benders Specifications

The pipe benders weight is approximately 550 pounds. This machine tool is portable and rests on 2 wheels that are 204 mm in diameter and 2 industrial grade casters. The machine tool runs on 240V 50Hz single-phase 20 Amps electricity making it even more portable seeing that is uses common power.

Die Sets for Tube Bender and Pipe Benders

Every die set that goes on our pipe benders is made up of high quality machined steel and each die set must be chosen to match the material being bent and to what specific center line radius you wish to bend the material on. For example if you are bending 1 -1/2” diameter tubing the die set is specific to that size tube and center line radius. Changing the die sets on the tube bender is extremely simple. This is made Model 150 has a non-proprietary spindle. Typical change over time is from 15 to 30 seconds on our tube bender machine tool.

Installing the die on our pipe benders is an easy two step process. Simply slip the die over the centering pin. The bend die will only fit on the spindle one way. Installing the counter die on the tube bender is equally as easy. Simply remove the hitch pin from the counter die holder and insert the counter die between the opening until the holes line up. Then insert the hitch pin through the holes. There are two different counter die quick releases that com ewith the tube bender which are used to give the same spacing between the counter die and the die for any given die radius in ˝” increments.

Once the die set is properly installed on the pipe benders spindle, the correct size material can now be inserted. The Model #150 machine tool has two ways of monitoring what degree of bend you are at. The first is the large degree dial on the top side of the bender. The other is with the degree of bend auto-stop (Models #150-AS and #150-HS).

IF after you make your bend on your tube bender you determine that the bend requires more degrees, increase the degrees by further activating the forward lever. This allows the operator to gradually reach a bend angle on the first set up piece. After you acquire the proper degree of bend it is wise to document the degree so multiple bends to that same degree can be accomplished.

  • Tube Bender and Pipe Benders Basic Facts

When bending with a tube bender or pipe benders there are several parameters that must be kept in mind. The parameters should be given to your Baileigh Industrial representative to assist them in helping you select the appropriate die set for your application. The factors are as follows 1) Outside diameter of the tube or pipe 2) The wall thickness of the tube or pipe 3) The Centerline Radius (CLR) you wish to bend the tube of pipe on.

There are several dynamics involved when bending tube of pipe on a tube bender or on our pipe benders. First, the material on the inside of the bend must compress. Second, the material on the outside of the neutral axis must stretch. Little or no support is needed within the tube when the tube diameter is small and the wall is relatively thick. The tube or pipe becomes weaker when the tube diameter increases or wall thickness decreases. In addition, when the bend radius decreases, the forces acting on the tube are effectively increased.

When the ratio of the tube diameter to wall thickness is small enough, the tube can be bent on a relatively small radius CLR = 4 x tube O.D.) without excessive flattening or wrinkling of the bend. The outside of a bend tends to pull towards the center line flattening the tube. A conventionally grooved bend die supports the tube along the center line and the inherent strength of the round or square tube help prevent flattening.

Tube Bender and Pipe Benders Warranty

Baileigh Industrial guarantees that the machine tool will be free from defects in workmanship and material for a period of one year from the date of purchase, provided such goods are installed, operated, maintained and used in accordance with Baileigh Industrial’s written machine tool instructions.

Our die sets are machined from high quality steel that resists wear and tolerates high levels of stress that occurs during the bending process. Cast dies can break easily and do not withstand the rigors of long term bending like our machined die sets can. Our dies sets are offered individually and in packages.. We stock a wide vareity of common die sets and custom die sets can be obtained in short order. Years of design and engineering assures that your application will work so if you have questions about the viablity of an application please do not hesisate to contact us and we will assist you in determining the best die set for your application.
